"Remember When I leave, that the one in the mirror ain't me"

Song: I'll Be In the Sky
Artist: B.O.B
Mixtape: Who the F*** is B.O.B?

This line is so true for me....

I wake up in the morning, throw on some clothes run to class, and go through the daily grind. However, when I pass by my mirror in my room, I always look in it to see if I see Victoria. For the past few months I haven't seen her. I haven't seen the Victoria that I love. I've seen versions of her, and even a girl I don't even recognize, but I haven't seen her.

Some of you by now are like, this girl is crazy. But it's so true.

Everyone lives in a version of their true self, some of us can take it off when we get in the privacy of our own space, but the majority of us really can't tell the real from the tiredness. fakeness. insecurities. fears. pride. When I wipe off the makeup, take off the clothes and accessories, I hope to see the true Victoria standing in front of me, but she's not there.

Instead there's:

Victoria the Vulgar
Victoria the Partier
Victoria the Vain
Victoria the Lazy
Victoria the Poser
Victoria the Doll

I wonder who I'll see tomorrow.

"Donnis on some otha ish"

Song: Otha Shit
Artist: Donnis & Chip The Ripper
Mixtape: The Jetsetters

This one flew right by me, and that's weird because DJ Benzi's mixtapes are pretty legit and I make sure to download them. It's a MashUp with Dope Couture, this time. (Luvs it) Dope just launched their Jetsetters collection, limited edition 75 shirts per character. Trust me Dope sells fast.

Its got a few songs I already have, but hey. NEW DONNIS!
Download Me

The mixtape is seamless, save for a few tracks. I played it all the way through and was pretty satisfied. Lyrical content varies from song to song as it should, but my favorites are by far are Loungin' and Stylin On You, enjoy!

"The Best I Ever Had"

Song: Best I Ever Had
Artist: Drake

Mixtape: So Far Gone
Damn, I gotta listen to this again?
After walking from dorm to dorm, passing by cars and more cars, I can't help but hear one of Drake's songs being blasted. It's great, I loved the So Far Gone mixtape, because personally I had given this actor/rapper no cred before it dropped. My fault for having pre-conceived notions, but I'm always a little wary of that crossover act.

Anyways, So Far Gone is blasted everywhere and I've come to think to myself, is this good or bad? How much exposure is too much exposure? Everyone knows that songs get tired really easily, and at the rate EVERYONE is bumpin' Drake's new music his shit is gonna get old really really quickly. (Although he didn't even drop an album, so this could just be a little prop in his bag of tricks.) I mean, I don't want his shit to become like Lollipop, I can't even listen to the opening 4 measures of that song without getting nautious.

So my advice, Drake needs to still keep producing quality, because it all fairness it's not his fault that he's got some of the nicest stuff out there, (and a great deal of hype to go with it.) Instead, everyone else should take this phenomena as a chance to step their game up, to come up with new stuff that will replace this anomaly of not just HEAVY rotation, but SINGULAR ROTATION. It's crazy that right now, Drake is gettting the same amount of play that Lupe, Yeezy, and Weezy do on my iTunes. He ain't up on Jay or B.I.G's status, and definitely not on Michael's but that's still saying a lot.

People should also charge it to themselves to diversify their music library content. I am all for external hardrives for music, music, and more music. My whole music library fits in the palm of my hand and I have ample space for more. Music is limitless, don't box yourself into one Genre or a set of artists. Branch out, while Drake was over blowing up the Hipster/Hip-Hop side of things, the Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist soundtrack was burning up the charts. Yeah you heard it right, I downloaded it on a whim and it opened up new doors to new sounds. I even dusted off some not-so-oldies, like "Seeing Sounds" from NERD and "The Black Parade" from My Chemical Romance, and had a good time.

Don't get sick of an Artist cause everyone plays it. It's not thier fault. Make a choice, stand up...and put that bitch on SHUFFLE

"Lazy Sunday Wake Up In The Late Afternoon"

Song: Lazy Sunday
Artist: Andy Samberg & Chris Parnell
Album: SNL

So it's Sunday, I woke up at 12ish, caught the caf at 1:30 and came back to chill in the room. When I was little, I hated Sundays. They were the ominous end of your weekend, you couldn't have sleepovers, couldn't stay up to watch TV late, all you could do was sit around the house and anticipate going to school the next day, and maybe do some homework.

Sundays at college are welcome, after two, three, maybe four crazy nights of partying it's always great to have a day of rest. Stay in your sweatpants and chill. Sometimes you get a lot of constructive activities done, like cleaning your room, finishing a paper, or watching the Matrix Reloaded.

So here's to Sunday Funday....

"That's Just My Baby Daddy"

Song: My Baby Daddy
Artist: B-Rock and the Biz
I've always been interested in the evolution of language and etymology. It's pretty fun to find out where words come from, even when words like Bootylicious and Webinar are added into the lexicon. However, there are some words you can't help but hate. My pet peev is "Baby Daddy/Mama," we all know where it came from, and people have come to accept and bring it into popular culture and their daily vernacular. Featured in movie titles, song lyrics, and even newspaper headlines the word is a refreshing novelty. Although it's funny to say, it is a rather offensive term that connotates inferiority and the lackadaisical approach to parenting in a certain parts of America.

When using the term Baby Mama or Baby Daddy what do you mean? First of all, the grammar is all wrong, and I hope everyone understands that. It should be, Baby's Daddy/Mama however the deletion of the proprietary apostrophe and "S" is a relinquishing of ownership of responsibility. (of the english language and of the child) In fact, with the term Baby Daddy the child in question is not really relvant, we're describing more the man or the woman and their relationship to their partner (or ex-partner), than their actual relationship to the child. When a man speaks of having "Baby Mama Drama" He's talking about the drama he has with the mother-of-his child, whether it has to do with his child or not.

Also, calling someone a Baby Mama or Baby Daddy denigrates the relationship the user once had with said person. It distances them, even if it was a one-night-stand that ended up in an unplanned pregnancy, there was still a sharing of intimacy, in which this word neglects to mention. Ex-Girlfriends, and Ex-Wives are distinctly different than Baby Mamas, yet the words are sometimes used interchangeably when children are involved. (same thing goes for Baby Daddy's) When a man or a woman is called this, it's usually in face of anger or because the nature of the relationship is held so flippantly.

While discussing the denigration of a relationship, we must not forget the importance of the child in this equation. The responsibility to be a parent is not implied in this phrase "Baby Mama/Daddy." Just because you are a Baby Daddy or Baby Mama doesn't mean you are automatically an important part of the child's life. A man can have two or three Baby's Mama's AND a wife. With all of that can you expect him to be around equally and put in the same amount of effort in each child's life? The term Baby Daddy has come along with a stigma of a man not taking care of his children, (although we all know there are responsible men out there who do) and the term Baby Mama has an equally negative stigma of an undateable woman who's got unruly ass children who you want to stay away from. (i.e. BeBe's Kids) Why would anyone want to interchange these two terms with the oh-so-important terms of Mother and Father which connotate responsibility and nurture, the exact opposite of the former.

My worry about this word making it's way into the daily American vocabulary, is the break down of meaning and significance in the American mind. That by using it more and more frequently, people will subconciously think it's standard and acceptable to have broken relationships of Single Moms and Single Fathers (Baby Mamas and Daddies) when this is not the case at all.

...This is just how I feel.

"Hallelujah, Thank You Jesus"

Song: Let The Praise Begin
Artist: Fred Hammond & RFC
Album: Pages of Life

Yeezy cut his hair, thank the lord and do a dance on the remnants I couldn't be happier. That haircut aged him, and he didn't know what to do with the back. I commend him for doing something different, but I'm glad he went back to the fade.

"I givin 'em whiplash when I'm whippin the whip fast"

Song: Parkin' Lot Pimpin
Artist: Jay-Z
Album: The Dynasty: La Roc Familia
So yesterday night I had my first true ATLien experience. You know every girl gets a holla at on the sidewalk, or guys break their necks to check out homegirl in the passenger seat. Usually, we're sober and the guys have ugly fronts, or have that Jherri Curl/Soul Glo action going on. In other words they're plain BUSTED, so you just keep driving, and hope you don't catch another red light.

Yesterday night we were driving back from a party and were about to hit up McDonalds when we drive up to stoplight and homeboy driving is looking RIGHT. We all had some artificial courage in our system, so Salem rolls down the back window and they start talking, I join in on the conversation. The light turns green and we start rolling and talking at like 35 MPH (yeah that takes skill) and we get to another stoplight. Chyna yells over from the drivers side to meet us at the McDonalds we were going to. So they meet us there, and she's like "Tell them to get in the car!" I look at her like she has 5 heads.

We don't know these people, they could be crazy, but homie gets out of the car and the face matched the body. (Hell yes) so we tell them to get in the car as we wait in the drive-thru line. We were still hungry. We talked, they had just gotten off of work from Atlantic Station, they wanted to know if there were any parties....at 3:00 in the morning? Whatever, Driver's Side Homie and I started talking he was feelin the 'fro and we got the digits exchanged. It was fun to turn the tables and holla at the guy for a change.

They hopped out and left up to Dunwoody (Far as hell right!?!) but he was like "Yo Vic call me okay..."

God I love Atlanta, (and Chyna for being the Wingman of the Year, yet again.)

"Breath in for Luck, Breath in So Deep"

Song: Hands Down (acoustic)

Artist: Dashboard Confessional
Album: So Impossible

Imagine this: Standing in shadow of the summer day, your head is bent down anticipating the great night that is to come. Don't cry, it's a happy time, and if you do you'll ruin your makeup and your pictures will be a mess. You hold your head up just enough to see people's feet. You're not sure if your father will be there, but you hope so. You look to the left and hook someone's arm, as he tells you "you look beautiful" and you walk through the french double doors down the long straight aisle. You feel like your running, you look like you're gliding, but you know you're walking. Everything is picture perfect, the church is a pristine white, the guests have all resolved on an unsaid color scheme that seems to match. No aunt is in a gold lamé suit, wearing matching pumps with pantyhose glossened pump-fat hanging over. Your best friends are waiting for you at the end of your destination, you're not sure what color their wearing, or what style their hair is in, but they all look beautiful and happy to see you. You stare to the men on the right and see traditional tuxes and not a sign of imperfection. You finally bring your head up to look at that one person in the room that matters. Too Bad He Doesn't have a face.
Guys, I've been thinking about my wedding, I don't know why. Every time I watch romantic movies, I wonder about the after, you know the forever part. The marriage part. If there's a wedding in the film, I'll think about how I envision my own. I've even went so far as to look up wedding dresses. I don't know what the hell is wrong with me, I don't want to get married anytime soon. I don't even have a face to put on the groom...what the hell is this creepy (biological) thing going on. I'm 19 I don't need a marriage...I barely need a boo.

Someone slap me.

"Got A Secret, Can You Keep It?"

Song: Secret
Artist: The Pierces
Album: Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge

What happens when a friend betrays you? What happens when you betray a friend? What happens when the friendship has run it's course, and it's time to let go?

Right now I'm pressed with all of these situations, what to do, what to do, what to do?

Act 1: The Friendship
I met Venus in my Freshman year of college through the Glee Club. We both worked really hard and wanted to sing in Christmas Carol, by default we became fast friends. We were both from the suburbs up north, (she lived a state away from me) so we reminisced about the mutual comforts of home. We had the same sense of humor, liked the same things it was an easy friendship. We spent time in each others dorm rooms, doing hair and homework. I would call her out on her bullshit, she would call me out on mine.

Act 2: The Strain

Venus had a tendency to lie a lot, about stupid little things, like how much money she had, what kind of car she drove, and what colleges she got into. I didn't really sweat the small stuff, those were her insecurities not mine. We left for the summer as pretty good friends, but we never saw over the break even though we lived 40 minutes away from each other. I was a little perturbed by it, but hey circumstances are circumstances. We get back to Spelman and things are just different. We don't kick it like we used to, we've got a new circle of friends and she starts tagging along with a new girl. I don't mind it, I'm not even put off by it, but I do notice that I've grown a certain way and she another.

Act 3: The Betrayal
We don't really kick it on a personal level anymore, we go out to parties and stuff but that's it. Hey, we all grow apart and we know it, there's nothing we can do about it. At least I wasn't upset by it. One day at the end of the semester, as we're packing up to leave, she told another friend that she had a blog. Naturally I was supportive of it, because I was so hype about my blog. So I went and read it. It was a collection of "Short stories" which were actual real life events, but she had just changed people's names. It was pretty transparent but very interesting because apparently there were a lot of secrets I didn't know about. (typical girl drama) Then I read this one part where she came out and blatantly called me a whore. I was hurt, extremely hurt. She knew me, and knows that's not me at all and yet she still called me a whore. (Oh should I mention that she said I was a nice girl?) I was pissed, and I told her about it. I said, "Why would you think that, and then why would you post it on the internet, instead of telling me you felt some type of way?" She came up with some bullshit excuses

Act 4: The Aftermath
After that we had left for Winter Break, I resolved to forgive her because everyone makes mistakes, and I too had made the mistake of not being upfront with my feelings. However, when we came back, I just couldn't get over how she saw me. A nice little whore who had lost her virtuous ways . She thought she was better than me, and I couldn't take it. I also knew that we had grown apart during the previous semester, and it wouldn't be anywhere near the same if we tried to be friends after this incident. Friendship was not an option, I could be civil, but I couldn't even be nice. I don't say Hi to her, or extend to her any type of kindness, I don't include her in my conversations or my plans. I know we share mutual friends, but we don't kick it with each other.

I know I might have cut hard, but when I'm a friend, I'm loyal no matter what, and when you take that loyalty for granted it hurts so badly. You know who I am, all my insecurities all my faults and you sit there and say something you know would hurt if I heard it...that's not friendship that's just shiesty.

Friendship is something that should be coveted and worked on, but sometimes you can only work on it so much.

....But He Loves Me.

Source: TMZ
I hope everyone sees this, and I hope the public does not forgive Chris Brown for this heinous offense. I'm sorry but this is no way justifiable, I get mad and angry but I never touch a person, and I never in million years think it would be okay to leave a person like this. Woman or not.

It's sad to say that it most likely happened before, and happens in homes and relationships and all over the world.

Stop the madness, you really want your little sister looking like this? Hell to the no.

This is my cousin's story

.....

The Picture above is the real picture

This is the fake one, which is really besides the point. Because he physically and emotionally scared her, and that's never acceptable.

Throwback Thursdays

So we all discredit Ja Rule for being a rapper, especially after he teamed up with Bobby Brown AND Jennifer Lopez. However you have to admit, that when his part come's on in this song, you can't help but growl "WHERE WOULD I BE WITHOUT MY BABY!!" I've scared a lot of men with Ja Rule voice, but hell really I'm like Charli Baltimore...red hair and all. Lil' Mo could blow, but she was a little too ghetto for me. I'm hood (Ha) but Dayum,

Oh, and what the hell is Vita wearing?

Enjoy.

"I hate hearing stories about who you've been with"

Song: Brand New
Artist: Drake

Mixtape: So Far Gone (download link)
OMG...It Goes There
Okay so I've been refusing to comment on this mixtape for a while. I'm a hardcore degrassi fan, My friend Roni and I used to recap the episodes verbatim. I'm all for the golden age of Degrassi, when Craig was cheating on Ashley and hooking up with Manny, and Jimmy could walk! Basically, I stopped watching the show when Aubrey Grahm's fine ass was condemed to a wheelchair. So Jimmy get's paralyzed but Spinner stays on the damn show?! Ughh sickening.

So for all those non-hardcore fans (pshh) Jimmy AKA Aubrey Grahm AKA Drake can Rap and Sing. Like f'reals. He had some blow off single like last year with Trey Songz that I watched with the sound off. However, this mixtape is much more refined...and he know's he can't even rap about the mean streets of Degrassi so there's no frontin' on the Gangsta side. I like that...however, he will always be Aubrey to me...Sexy ass Aubrey.

Okay, so anyways I was listening to one song off his new mixtape called Brand New Oh Em Geezy. I thought it was Trey Songz, and got really excited, cause I love myself some Trey, but no it turned out to be Aubrey Grahm serenading me, with his fine ass. It's definitely on repeat. I just love that he Sings AND Raps..and it's not even corny either. All I can say is thank god he didn't get into that trap of a Disney contract a la Raven.

Props to Dion for coercing me into downloading this.

Grab yo' Boo for this one

"Wine For Me, Slow Wine For Me"

Song: Slow Wind
Artist: R. Kelly
Album: TP.3 Reloaded

Notice the Power Tools

Last night at table headquarters we had a little thing we like to call "Wine Down Wednesday." Yes we were fully aware that it was Tuesday, but it just needed to come a day earlier than planned. Yes, it was that serious.

Someone dropped off a bottle of wine as a party favor, and it's been rolling around in the trunk of the 'Rola for a good minute because no one has a corkscrew. I mean c'mon we're in college, we exist in survival mode, if it doesn't cook in the microwave, open with the bottle opener on my keychain, or come out of a vending machine...it's too much effort.

However, this is different, we were going to have WDW come hell or high water. We start banging the bottle on the counter to see if the pressure will pop the cork out. Nope. I ask my friend Kitty, if he has any power tools, so he gets the Black & Decker out and we start going to work on this damn cork. But apparently it's as sturdy as Nikki's Mailbox and refuses to move. So then we decide to get an Allen Wrench, and see if we can use leverage to get it out. Nope.

So we go back to method number two when all of a sudden the cork sinks halfway down, and subsequently splashing me with the fermented grape drink. So then Chyna says "well push it all the way in!!!" So Kitty hands me a knife and I start pushing the cork in. Success!!!! (But I cut my hand)

In true comic style, Kitty's roomate's come out to see what the comotion was, and then proceed to walk to the drawer and pull out a corkscrew. Damn we need our own sitcom.

'Things that Make You Go Hmm..."

Song: Things that Make You Go Hmm
Artist: C+C Music Factory
Album: Gonna Make You Sweat

What do guys want a real girl or a blow up doll?
Today in one of my numerous English classes we were discussing all the different terms for sex in popular cultre. When it came to white kids, it was "Hook Up", "Do it", all that corny shit. However, in the Black Vernacular (that's right I said it) words to describe sex are much more violent and masculine...think about it

Beat. Smash. Hit. Tap. Blow her Back Out. Bone. Bust it Wide Open. Screw. Bang. Pound. Beat it Up. Knock it Out....

I mean what does that reinforce? Male Dominance and abuse.. Honestly, the black woman continues to be the subject of hypersexualization in every aspect. Even in language a woman is subject to a man's will. Honestly a Woman can't physically Beat it, Smash it, Hit It, Tap It, Bust It Open, and other things and still come away with a non-traumatic experience. This is just another way things are getting out of hand.

I don't know about you but I'm not down for that..whatever happened to cute sayings like "Make Whoopee" lol or something inbetween.
